Beginning in June, Grand Strand Youth Hockey will offer Summer Pick-Up Hockey sessions every Thursday night at The Market Common rink.
Summer skates are designed to be a fun way for new players to try hockey and to keep current players skating throughout the off-season.
These sessions are free to attend and open to all players ages 4-17. No experience is necessary and participation in the league is not required for these open sessions.
Sessions will run from 6-8 p.m. each week beginning Thursday, June 6, 2024, and run through Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024. There will be no skate on Thursday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday.
Each week's pick-up will be run in two sessions, based on age & skill level.
Times are as follows:
Sessions will consist of 10-15 minutes of unstructured Open Skate and Shootaround time, followed by a approx. 45 minutes of pick-up hockey. During this time players will be split into teams and will play scrimmage-like games.
Coaches and organizers from GSYH will be on hand for all sessions, and will do our best to match-up lines of players with similar skill levels.
We're always looking for new players to join our league. If you're new to the area or interested in playing hockey for the first time, these summer skates are perfect for you!
Prospective players interested in skating may borrow equipment from the GSYH trailer to join our summer skates. We cannot guarantee all sizes and types of equipment, but will do our best to get your player geared up and ready to skate.
If you have not participated in our league in the past, a parent will be required to sign a waiver before skating with us for the first time.
