At Grand Strand Youth Hockey, our mission is to grow the sport of hockey in the Myrtle Beach area by offering engaging and educational programs for young athletes. That's why we're happy to announce we will again offer an instructional class for young skaters this spring.

Our Learn to Play is designed for kids ages 4-9 with no prior hockey experience to start them off learning the fundamentals of hockey and skating at an early age.

The program will take place over eight weeks in one-hour sessions on Saturday mornings beginning in February. It is designed to be fun, inclusive, and developmental, providing a great introduction to the skills needed to play hockey in our Mites League.

For families new to the Grand Strand Youth Hockey organization, we invite you to come attend a session at no cost to "try it out" and see if your player likes it before committing for the spring program.

Full dates and details are below.

Learn to Play Details

The Learn to Play Program is designed to introduce young children to the basics of hockey, including skating, puck handling, and the rules of the game, with the goal of preparing them to join the Mites League (ages 6-12).

Who’s it for?

Kids ages 4-9 years old who want to learn to play hockey, but either are not old enough or don’t think they are ready to play in our Mites League.

This class is for beginning skaters without any experience playing hockey. Players who participated in our Fall Learn to Play or Learn to Skate classes are welcome.

Participants in this class should be able to confidently stand on their skates without the assistance of a parent.

Players who need assistance from a coach or skating aid to stand are welcome to join, but may be limited to non-hockey drills and basic skating instruction on how to stand, shuffle and maneuver until they are able to learn to stand on their own.

Cost

Classes will be 1 hour per week for eight weeks on Saturday mornings. The cost for the full program is $80 for the spring season.
